Monthly  "Tid-bits"

Welcome to 2008!

I want to take the time to wish all of you who continue to visit this site and do business with me a prosperous and healthy 2008. This will be a great year to expand our collections and learn more new facts about our collecting area!

Your comments via email are always appreciated and invited.

Just Arrived!

I have just purchased a very nice stock of Sweden Booklets and am currently listing them in the store.

Be sure to check them out to see what you need.

Thoughts for Beginning to Intermediate Collectors!

If you a just starting to collect certain country areas, be sure to consider buying year set. I am offering year sets in some of the Scandinavian Countries. It is not "cost effective" for me to list each and every set individually. It also makes it much easier for you to complete an "entire" year with one purchase. My Year sets do not include the definitive sets because they are always offered by themselves.  If you need certain "years" to complete your collection, please send me an email.  I may have of them in stock but not listed.

Want to Meet other Collectors?

Be sure to check out the site, www.myphilately.com

This is a very well designed interactive web site, that offers features such as Blogs, Polls, Help Pages, and More
One of the often overlooked and neglected benefits of the hobby is the opportunity to meet new people.
Unfortunately, the only way the internet can help us in this area is via sites such as My Philately. Com.

To get a good idea about this web site and if you have ever had problems understanding the Denmark Inverted Frame issues, either go to Philately.Com  or check out this fantastic Blog on these issues.  Click on this link:     http://philatelyoftoday.blogspot.com/
You will find it very useful.

Are you a collector of the Scandinavian Countries?

I have a great deal of very nice material in my office.  Because it takes time to list items within my store, there are many that are here and waiting to fill a space in your collection. Many collectors don't realize that a "Want List" can help you dealer find those items that you need to fill additional spaces.  If you will take the time to complete a Want List on the page provided, I promise that I will respond within a few days with those items that I can provide and will provide pricing on them.  My only request is that you provide a list that will contain at least $50.00 of Scott Value.  I apologize but I cannot take the time to work on want lists that only contain a couple of very cheap stamps.

An interesting stamp item!

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was not only a U.S. President but also one of this country's most famous stamp collectors. In 1946, when H.R. Harmer placed at auction the collections and items from the F.D.R. collection they stamped on the reverse of the stamp items that they were from Roosevelt's collection. Shown here is a very inexpensive Denmark item, Scott # 263 which is identified as coming from the Roosevelt collection.  It is interesting to note that these identifications were applied to even very cheap items. They used several different rubber hand-stamps. It is amazing that they would bother to stamp this item because the current catalog value is a mere $3.75.  Items such as this one, are great additions to either the country collection or a special Franklin Delano Roosevelt collection.

Don't overlook the "Make Offer" provision on store listings!

There are many items in my store that have this provision. I try to list very expensive items with this provision. This allows you to make an offer on sets that would buy at a lesser than the listed price.  I am flexible on pricing on this type of item, BUT will not accept "ridiculous" offers.  Just be sure to make an offer on any item that you would really like to add to your collection.

How to Choose a Stamp Album

You may be concerned about what album to use to hold your collection. Some collectors will use the normal albums and some may decide to use a stock books. The traditional method has been to invest money in stamp albums. Then comes the decision of which one of the many commercial albums to choose. In today's electronic age, there is another choice. You can obtain very nice printable stamp album pages for any country in the world from The Stamp Album . For a very reasonable annual fee of $20.00 US, you can gain access to these album pages. You can save them on your computer and print them as needed.

These album pages can be printed on the 8½ " X 11" pages and housed in a three-ring binder. The important thing to remember is to select a paper stock that is (1) acid free and (2) is somewhat stiff to support the contents of the page. I offer these pages in my stamp store and they are excellent for building your stamp album. Please check them out at Album Pages. Of course, there are many other choices of commercial albums i.e. Scott, Lindner, White Ace, and etc. All of these pages save the labor and expertise needed to make your own pages. However, when you go to sell your collection either at auction or to a dealer, they will give "no value" to the album.  It is also a great benefit to using the computer generated pages because you can alway produce any amount of pages for a specific issue that you want to specialize in your collection.

Be sure to take a look at this option before you decide on spending a large amount of dollars for a commercial album. I am not adverse to the commercial albums BUT the computer approach allows you, the collector, a greater deal of flexibility at a much lower cost. Remember, nothing if Free but there are ways to collect stamps that will allow you more money to spend on the stamp themselves

I have opened an additional store site at Stampwants.com , European Stamps from Curtis Gidding.

Looking for an area to Collect?

Sweden is a country that has a very conservative issuance policy on new issues. The real interesting aspect of Sweden stamps is that they have issued most stamps in both booklet, sheet and coil formats. This produces a variety of issues to collect. The coil issues are perforated on two sides, the booklets on three sides, and the sheet stamps are perforated on all four sides. Hence, creating several varieties for each issue. The early stamps of Sweden offer a great deal of variety when it comes to collecting postmarks.  Be sure to try to collecto the early issues , well centered, with nice complete circular date stamps. These stamps will always command a premium in the market. For more information about the History, Geography, and Facts about Sweden, Click Here.  I try to stock most every Scott Number but if you don't see it, just send a want list. I also have a very nice stock of USED Sweden . Please send a Want List for items that you need.

Iceland is an exciting country which is rich in heritage. Stamps have been issued since 1873 and this country has a very conservative issuance policy. The country has relied upon the industries of fishing and agriculture for many years. Under the postal administration of Denmark up until the time of Independence in 1944. Collecting Iceland can offer many opportunities. Their stamps are rich in topical content. Be sure to take a look at the broad selection of material from Iceland offered in the store. For more information about the History, Geography, and Facts about Iceland, Click Here.  A great source for a specialized catalog of Iceland is available on the internet, Specialized Iceland catalog. Don't see the items that you need, just send a want list.  I also have a very nice stock of USED Iceland.

Comments on Store Images

The images shown in my store are used to show the quality of the issue. On many common lower priced sets a common image is used and each offering is not imaged. You can feel confident that the item that you receive will meet the description shown. On items, where they are one of a kind or on material prior to 1960, the images shown are actual images of the item. Imaging is a very time consuming task and this is why on lower priced material I may use a common image. Please do not request a better image of material that is below $25.00 in selling price. Also, do not request imporved images for the purpose of detecting varieties of flaws. REMEMBER, you are guaranteed satisfaction on your purchase.

And Most of All!

If you are active in many areas of philately, you will find that my store lists material from all areas. I try to stock material that has philatelic significance. It is the World's Greatest Hobby. It has so many facits that it is impossible to predict what could appear in my Store!   Be sure to bookmark the store, and visit it often.

MOST IMPORTANT - Don't forget to communicate what you collect via email. I am here to try to provide material that fits your collecting interest

GOOD COLLECTING!
